Throughout her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., Lillie Ruth Knox was a committed flag-waver for the progress of women- and minority-owned businesses. She initially worked as a telephone operator and, ultimately, was asked to launch the company’s minority/women’s business enterprise development program in Texas. From 1992 until her retirement in 2000, she not only led SBC’s supply chain diversity efforts, she took that passion into the community, mentoring diverse suppliers and working with other companies to help them foster inclusive supply chains.
